CSSA Annual Steward Meeting – Highlights
CSSA held its inaugural annual steward meeting on October 31, 2013. It was our first opportunity to demonstrate an early benefit of CSSA harmonization – one annual meeting, rather than three for each stewardship organization – saving the 350 attendees time and money. See below for meeting highlights and helpful links.
CSSA: Created by Stewards for Stewards
John Coyne, CSSA Board Chair opened the meeting with an overview of CSSA’s plan to deliver cost efficient packaging and printed paper stewardship programs on a national scale, and provided an update on the early steps in our journey towards national harmonization.Click here to read John’s remarks.
Apples-to-Apples Comparison Now Possible with Standardized Metrics
The meeting was CSSA’s first opportunity to cast a new national lens on all three packaging and printed paper programs, using a set of standardized environmental, financial and consumer metrics that in coming years will be used consistently across programs to track, improve and annually report out on performance. More detailed information is available here.
Total Steward Obligations for MMBC, MMSM and SO
In 2014, the total steward obligation for CSSA programs will be $199.5 million. While steward obligations across the programs differ (50% in ON, 80% in MB, and 100% EPR in BC), the cost components such as supply chain costs (collecting, transporting and processing the material), promotion and education (P&E), research and development, and program management, are similar across programs. New National Reporting List Available for 2014
The journey towards administrative harmonization continues with the creation of a national list of materials that will be available on the WeRecycle Portal for 2014 steward reports. Developed in consultation with members of CSSA’s Customer User Group (our test-group of steward companies), the national list is the first step in harmonizing reporting for packaging and printed paper stewards in BC, MB, and ON.
